Mondesi set for Return

The Royals announced today (May 25) that shortstop Adalberto Mondesi will make his 2021 season debut tonight in Tampa Bay. Mondesi missed the first 45 games of the season due to an oblique injury.

Mondesi’s return could help give the Royals (22-23) a badly needed lineup boost. The team has been struggling at the plate of late, and has a -25 run differential this season. If Mondesi, who hit .377 with 6 home runs, 19 RBI’s and 16 stolen bases over the last 22 games in 2020, can bring anything relatively close to that production in 2021, it will take pressure off of everyone else.

Mondesi will have a chance to play for about a week before the Royals return home to The K on May 31 against the Pirates. May 31 is a significant date because it will be the first game in 20+ months that the stadium has an opportunity to reach full capacity. | TICKETS

Kansas City is in Tampa for three games before heading to Minnesota for a weekend series. Tampa has won 11 consecutive games, so Mondesi and the Royals will have their work cut out for them.
