The Royals kicked some major butt on their home stand against their two biggest rivals in the AL Central: the Cleveland Indians and the Detroit Tigers.
A combination of timely hitting and outstanding work from the pitching corps gave KC 6 wins in 7 tries against Cleveland and Detroit. The Royals looked like a completely different team. They’ve been almost unbeatable at home. They have the best home record in the league.
In their last 5 games, the Royals have plated 41 runs. Rookie Whit Merrifield still provides a hot bat at the top of the order. In the past week, the Royals have been a slashing, dashing team displaying some muscle behind Salvador Perez’s big stick.
The starting rotation is still iffy. It’s been good at times, bad at times and very mediocre on occasion. However, the Royals have silently climbed 7 games over .500 because of pitching. Ventura, on his best behavior, has turned in two strong performances after the brawl against the Orioles. Duffy is doing fine in his new starting role and even 37-year-old Chris Young is trying his hardest to keep a job on this team. It won’t be easy for this affable veteran. The bullpen has had its moments but that part of the team is zero concern. No sweat.
The Royals have completed a busy schedule against the division, winning 8 of their last 9 games going head-to-head. That pushes their mark to 20-11 against the AL Central. And now it’s back to the road where the Royals have been dreadful this season (13 – 23). Nine of their next 12 games in this upcoming road trip will be against National League teams.

On another subject, I happened to catch Jason Whitlock’s comments on Fox Sports before game 6 of the NBA Final Series. I’m still not believing what I heard. If the Warriors eliminated the Cavs, Whitlock stated Larry Bird would move ahead of Lebron on his all-time top 10 list of the NBA’s greatest players. Say What? That is the most asinine comment I’ve heard. Here’s one of the great sports columnists (in his mind only) making some off-the-cuff comment only for total shock value. King James is in the fast lane to be recognized as the best place to ever lace em up.

Shame on the USGA. They screwed up! It was criminal for them to leave Dustin Johnson hanging for 13 holes on Sunday. If it’s a penalty, have the stones to call it when it happened. Oh by the way, looks like Rory and boy Wonder Spieth need to stay out of the gym and spend some more time on their game. DJ just blew by Rory into 3rd place in the World Rankings. Spieth is hanging on to his #2 ranking. Money is so big these days – golf rankings mean next to nothing to these guys.
And congrats to Ty Lue. He’s now a world champion NBA head coach after taking over the job with Cleveland Cavaliers at midseason. The former Raytown star was able to keep King James happy and for that, Lue will be set financially for the rest of his life. Here’s a good guy who will not finish last.
