Royals salvage a shaky road trip

Kauffman Stadium- Home of the KC Royals

The Royals were able to salvage what was a disastrous road trip this past weekend by taking two of three in Chicago, who the Royals have had significant success against this year. KC is 7-3 against the Sox, with one game postponed a few weeks ago. Yordano Ventura, who is currently appealing his 8 game suspension, tossed a gem yesterday with 10 strikeouts in a 3-1 KC victory.

Ventura said after the game that his performance wasn’t a response to any criticism of his attitude and on field antics that have been on display lately. It does however seem like there was an awakening from Ventura, who has been close to being taken out of the rotation or even being sent down to Omaha.

Danny Duffy has been nothing short of a breath of fresh air in the Royals rotation as of late. He’s sporting a 2.94 ERA on the year and more importantly, in his last three starts, he has taken his talents into the 6th inning. This is obviously important for the Royals and ideal for setting up the bullpen, which has been the key to the Royals success the last three years. Oddly enough, Duffy pitches better on the road, but nobody else seems to want to follow that trend. The Royals are 13-23 on the road, which is second worst in the American League with Minnesota being the worst.

The Royals are off to a 2-1 start in their 10 division game stretch, Cleveland is now in town, and they’re playing good baseball. They have won 7 of 10 including a recent four game sweep over the Royals. This ten game stretch is as big as it gets for June baseball. With Cleveland and Detroit coming into town playing good baseball, the Royals have their work cut out for them protecting their home field where they have been so good this year.

Six-year veteran Carlos Carrasco is on the mound for the Indians tonight. He has battled some injuries this year, missing all of May, but he has been consistent for the tribe. Edinson Volquez is pitching for the Royals tonight, and he is due for a quality start. He has strung together a few rough starts, giving up 12 earned runs in his last three, also allowing 4 home runs.

The weekend has given optimism, but the eight game skid still haunts this team, gotta play catch-up now. Tickets for Less has the homestand covered!
