Royals Hosting Weekend Series with Twins

After a celebratory start to the season that resulted in a split with the New York Mets, the Kansas City Royals (1-1) will host the 0-3 Minnesota Twins this weekend at Kauffman Stadium.

Yordano Ventura will take the mound for KC in what needs to be a good start for the young star in order to develop some momentum for a starting pitching unit that was lit up in spring training.

Edinson Volquez was solid in his opening day start, while Chris Young gave up one mistake–a two-run homer–to the Mets in game two.

Ventura came on the scene two seasons ago in the Royals’ first run to the World Series and completely dominated his opponents, creating a buzz about his long-term potential. The buzz is still there, but after a rocky second season on the mound at times, fans are hoping to see a more mature and emotional centered pitcher.

Aside from pitching, the Kansas City bats need to come alive against an average Twins team which has started off the season on the wrong foot.

KC nickel and dime’d their way to a win in the opener in classic Royals fashion. In game 2, Alcides Escobar led off with a triple, but the team was essentially shut down by Noah Syndergaard and the Mets pitching staff in the 2-0 loss, recording 12 strikeouts in the victory.

The last time Kansas City and Minnesota played, the Royals locked up home field advantage in the 2015 postseason. In Kauffman Stadium, the Royals will always have a significant advantage because of the size of the field and the stellar defense and pitching.

If the starting pitching shows up and gets it to the bullpen in the sixth inning, it’s typically lights out.

With the first division games set to take place this weekend for KC, Ned Yost and his club can start off the season exactly as they planned by jumping in front in the standings. With good weather, the ‘K’ should be packed and excited for another home series.
